Legendary surf lifesavers Barry Rodgers and Hayden Kenny have been inducted into the Ironman Hall of Fame at a glittering awards ceremony at Noosa Heads Surf Club.
Rodgers and Kenny join the Hall’s initial inductees Grant Kenny, Karla Gilbert and Trevor Hendy who were given the honour last year.
Rodgers, who was on hand to receive the award, joined Maroubra Surf Club in the 1954/55 season and later went onto win nine national titles including the coveted Australian ironman championship three times in succession between 1967 and 1969.
He also captained the Australian team when they toured New Zealand in the 1966/67 season and South Africa in 1968/69 and is a member of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
Kenny, who was overseas on a skiing holiday, was not at the awards but his induction was gladly accepted by son Grant and the pair became the first father-son to enter the Hall of Fame.
Hayden Kenny won the first ever Australian ironman championship at Coolangatta in 1966, the highlight of a decorated career.
He later went onto build one of the most successful surfcraft businesses in the industry with his Hayden Surfcraft label making boards and skis.
